Auto Insurance

What you should know about Auto Insurance!

How are my rates determined?

Your zip code, driving record, use of vehicle, annual mileage, credit score, occupation, education, safety features on your car, coverage you select, amount of your deductibles.  There are many discounts available, such as: Multi-Car, Good Driver, Good Student, Defensive Driving Course, Multi-Policy, Green Car, etc.

Am I getting the best deal?

Get quotes based on what you have now.  Then ask your agent if you have adequate coverage.  Make sure your policy limits are high enough to cover any liability you may incur.

Have you recently purchased a home, moved to a new zip code, purchased a new car, gotten married, had a child or had your rates go up?  Then its time to review your coverage. Always review your coverage on a regular basis to make sure it is adequate for your circumstances.  Life events can impact your need for insurance, either higher or lower.

What are the various types of coverage?

Collision - Collision insurance covers repairs to your vehicle if it is damaged by hitting another object or vehicle regardless of fault.

Comprehensive -Comprehensive insurance provides protection for your vehicle in case it is damaged by something other than a collision with another vehicle or object. Comprehensive insurance pays to repair or replace your vehicle in case of:

  • Fire
  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Windstorm
  • Collision with an animal
  • Glass breakage
  • And much more

Liability - Pays the other party for property damage or bodily injury if you are found to be at fault for the accident.  Be sure to talk to an insurance professional about the two Tort Options in Pennsylvania.  Full Tort and Limited Tort are complicated choices and require careful consideration prior to obtaining your policy.

Personal Injury Protection - Pays the medical expenses for you and other people covered under your policy should you be injured in an accident.  It is no-fault so you are covered no matter who is at fault for the accident.

Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist coverage - protects you if you get into an accident with a driver that is uninsured or does not have adequate coverage to cover any expenses.   Be sure to talk to an insurance professional regarding Stacking of this coverage.  It is your option to obtain this coverage either Stacked or Non-Stacked.  Careful consideration should be given before making your deicison.

Medical Expenses - this coverage pays for medical expenses incurred by the driver or passengers after an accident and typically has limits under $10,000.  After you reach the limit as described in your policy, your health insurance would kick in and depending upon your plan begin to pay.

What are deductibles?

The amount you must first pay before an insurance company will pay a claim.  There are various limits to choose from and they will affect your rates.
